Battle Weary?

Life is throwing curve balls from all directions. The children have loads of demands – fetch this one, drop that one, don’t forget the project goodies, can I have a friend over? The boss expects you to give 110%, “that’s what I pay you for afterall”, and don’t try coming up for air. There’s a household to be run – shopping, cooking, nagging.

Before you know it, morning just comes too soon, you’re dragging yourself through the day and dropping into bed as if you have died but not departed?

And if per chance one comes upon an opportunity to have some time out… read a magazine, go to gym, grab a cuppa with a friend, enjoy a date night with your better half or a weekend away, doesn’t the guilt just chew you up, so that you actually find it difficult to relax and enjoy what you so well deserve?

So how do we stop ourselves from burning out whilst still meeting all the demands of home, work, children and spouses? The answers are simpler than we think. We need to ASK and not feel guilty about caring about ourselves and ensuring that we have a little time to refuel.

The truth is that life is demanding, but all too often we create our own exhaustion because we think we need to do everything if we want it done properly or quickly enough. So while we’re running around like headless chickens, feeling the pressure and possibly a little sorry for ourselves (that’s me anyway), everyone else is making demands or getting on and enjoying life.

If we’d only be willing to release the controls for just a little while, ask for help or share the load with those who share our lives, we’d be able to enjoy a little time out and catch our breath. Arrange a babysitter, call in favour from a friend, ask someone else in the house to cook a meal once in while. Hire a char to help with the domestic work.

Remember that you weren’t created to be everyone else’s personal slave. So, whatever it takes, for goodness sake take a break!!!! After all, you’ve earned it J
